I was raised in the Midwest and studied art at Southern Illinois University with an emphasis on painting and drawing under the guidance of Larry Bernstein and pottery with Nicholas Vergette. My creative ventures also include work with stained glass along with many various beading techniques and a host of other mediums.
I arrived in Alaska in October of 2001. The majesty of the state and jaw dropping scenery inspired me to continue my studies further. Douglas Girard of Palmer was instrumental in teaching techniques in oil painting that I continue to use to this day. I was a stubborn student and his patient guidance made all the difference.
In 2006 I journeyed to Italy to study plein air landscape painting in Tuscany under the tutelage of Madine Insalaco and Joe Vinson, two internationally known artists who spend their time between Italy and New York City. Spending time with them has been life changing, so much so, that I returned in June of 2019 to continue learning more of the techniques of plein air painting.
Painting is my passion, my escape and at times, my salvation. I am pleased to have this opportunity to share my journey and this body of work with you! - Beth Libbey
