Art "4" Hunger Auction

I was raised in the Midwest and studied art at Southern Illinois University with an emphasis on painting and drawing under the guidance of Larry Bernstein and pottery with Nicholas Vergette. My creative ventures also include work with stained glass along with many various beading techniques and a host of other mediums.

I arrived in Alaska in October of 2001. The majesty of the state and jaw dropping scenery inspired me to continue my studies further. Douglas Girard of Palmer was instrumental in teaching techniques in oil painting that I continue to use to this day. I was a stubborn student and his patient guidance made all the difference.

In 2006 I journeyed to Italy to study plein air landscape painting in Tuscany under the tutelage of Madine Insalaco and Joe Vinson, two internationally known artists who spend their time between Italy and New York City. Spending time with them has been life changing, so much so, that I returned in June of 2019 to continue learning more of the techniques of plein air painting.

Painting is my passion, my escape and at times, my salvation. I am pleased to have this opportunity to share my journey and this body of work with you! - Beth Libbey

Activities and exhibits on this special day focus on the energy that drives Alaska’s economy. Also, help out our local food banks and save on your admission! Between noon and 2 p.m. with a suggested donation of two shelf-stable food items per person you can get into the Fair for $2. (Must be through the gate by 2 p.m.) Come check out the Plaza to help AOGA celebrate “Energy Day” – and don’t forget to get your photo taken in the free photo booth!

We celebrate our youngest fairgoers on this very special day of the Fair! Enjoy free admission for kids 12 and under all day compliments of Alaska Born and Raised GCI. We believe that hunger knows no age, neither does teaching kids the importance of giving to others. Please bring a donation of two shelf-stable food items per child to Fair gates. Highlights of the day include a royal visit by Princesses of Alaska, Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Kids’ Day Games, and Combs Insurance Agency, Inc. Diaper Derby and Toddler Trot! Over in the BP Truck Grandstand, kiddos will be testing their skills in the Jr. Rodeo.

By far the most popular day of the Fair! Grab your friends and family to watch the Fair parade in downtown Palmer, then head over to the fairgrounds for a day of Fair fun! At the gates, kids 12 and under receive a $2 discount on admission all day with a suggested donation of two shelf-stable food items. Prepare for take-off with Alaska Airlines. Make your first stop at Pioneer Plaza to check-in for a great day at the Fair and the latest Club 49 deals from our official airline. Keep up to date with #Club49 and #Iflyalaska. Our Best Year Yet!

Laughter and music filled the air Saturday night at The Palmer Train Depot during Hearts 4 Hunger. The annual event held by Matsu Food Bank was a huge hit with a packed depot filled with people conversing and traveling from table to table, making bids on silent auction items including an autographed Eagles album. Marty Metiva was the MC and helped guide the evening as The Jerry Wessling Band rocked new songs from their set list to a busy hall. The "Wine Pull" offered guests a mystery wine valued anywhere from $10-100 for only $10 a pull and the silent auction items left in the hands of happy guests one at a time before the live auction erupted around 7pm.

Alaska Events & Catering provided an amazing meal with Beef Tenderloin served on salt blocks, locking in the flavor. They also helped raise money through a dessert auction, in which tables bid on their favorite desserts! The event was truly something special and we couldn't have done it without our wonderful sponsors. Thanks to everyone who attended and a special thanks to everyone that helped make Hearts 4 Hunger better than ever! Stay in touch for next year's event, already in the works....

These items collected are used in our programs like Food 4 Kids and provide meals to thousands of Mat-Su residents, monthly.

Stop by Denali Harley Davidson today to check out the best motorcycles available in Alaska and while you’re there, drop off some food items until Nov 21st! They are located on 1497 S Hyer Rd, Wasilla, AK 99654.

Pick Click Give

Pick Click Give has been an amazing program for us over the years. Food drives help us acheive our goal of feeding the community, but actual money keeps the lights on. Many times, people assume that food is the only thing we need here at Mat-Su Food Bank. The truth is, we greatly accept donations in the form of cash as well in may ways, including becoming a monthly donor, our fundraiser Hearts for Hunger coming up in February, and through PFDs as people participate in Pick Click Give. It only takes a moment to add us and we appreciate everyone that included us on this year’s PFD application.

If you are unfamiliar with this process, each year during your application process , you can support non profits throughout the great state of Alaska. By simply following the steps of the attached image, one can help support the Mat-Su Food bank through monetary donation, taken out of their PFD. We look forward to a great 2018, 2019, and beyond with your amazing support!
